Dabbling in art is playing. Committing to art is creation.
The Highlands Ranch artist, Becky Lucas has rediscovered her passion with color after years in the corporate world.
The Santa Fe native reflects the rich colors of her youth on every canvas. “People often say that New Mexico is
stark and void of color. But to an artist it is alive with hues of caramel, vivid greens, garnet and amber and
the mystical brilliance of orange. The treasure of color is its simplicity,” says Becky. “It arouses something
deep inside us.”

The millennium for many was a cause for change. In her desire to slow down and
appreciate life, Becky dedicated more time to stretching her artistic talents
from sewing and quilting to painting. After trying many mediums, she discovered
the flow of watercolor and pastels. “It was a union of coming home -- A soulful
discovery. After traveling so much I understood well that all experiences flow
into one another. I could now create that wonderful sensation with my brushes.”
And so she began the odyssey of painting.
Her landscapes are pastoral but vibrant; Her portraits soft with the vulnerability
of mankind. The flowers, she approaches like her quilts with dashes of color that
piece together in beautiful mosaic patterns. “I pray that my art sings thank you to
the great Creator,” says Becky.
With invigorating passion, Becky has discovered the thrill of growing artistically
with other independent artists. She is currently a member of the artistic colony,
Off Main Street Artists and continues to exhibit in the Denver area where she lives
with her husband, Stevan.
